In collaboration with the Dutch Welsh Pony & Cob Stud Book (NWPCS), the Netherlands New Forest Pony Stud Book (NNFPS) and the Dutch Riding & Pony Stud Book (NRPS) seven selection rounds for the annual Young Dressage Pony Championships are held with the final held in August.
The selection rounds are open to all ponies, regardless of pedigree but each pony must have a current passport and registration.
The top 20 ponies in each age group will be selected for the final. All ponies selected must have achieved a minimum score of 70. Ponies may attend a maximum of two qualifiers. Riders of stallions must be aged 12 years or over.
At the final, all selected ponies participate in the first round for each age group. Only the Top 5 will progress to the finals where they are ridden by a guest rider. The first round scores are added to the guest rider score to achieve the end results.

An influential sire for the Netherlands in both Young Pony and at FEI Pony level is the Dutch Riding Pony Vita Novas Celesto.
Sired by the Thoroughbred stallion Bright Moon xx, Vita Novas Celesto is out of Vita Novas Holiday, a mare by the pure arabian stallion El Bedavi who has multiple crosses in his pedigree to the well known grey stallion Skowronek. Her dam is a Welsh Mountain pony.
